Wireless Reading Device

13 07 2008

One more thing i fell in love with that i can’t have ! At least not for now.. But soon I hope..
Its Kindle : The New Wireless Reading Device. I’ve always had a problem with books, especially hard cover ones, they’re too heavy and honestly i cant enjoy a good book if am gonna have to feel like am lifting weights whie reading it at night !
I think a portable reading device is exactly what i need..
Here’s a little thing about it ;

“Introducing Kindle ;
Three years ago, we set out to design and build an entirely new class of device—a convenient, portable reading device with the ability to wirelessly download books, blogs, magazines, and newspapers. The result is Amazon Kindle.

We designed Kindle to provide an exceptional reading experience. Thanks to electronic paper, a revolutionary new display technology, reading Kindle’s screen is as sharp and natural as reading ink on paper—and nothing like the strain and glare of a computer screen. Kindle is also easy on the fingertips. It never becomes hot and is designed for ambidextrous use so both “lefties” and “righties” can read comfortably at any angle for long periods of time.

We wanted Kindle to be completely mobile and simple to use for everyone, so we made it wireless. No PC and no syncing needed. Using the same 3G network as advanced cell phones, we deliver your content using our own wireless delivery system, Amazon Whispernet. Unlike WiFi, you’ll never need to locate a hotspot. There are no confusing service plans, yearly contracts, or monthly wireless bills—we take care of the hassles so you can just read.

With Whispernet, you can be anywhere, think of a book, and get it in one minute. Similarly, your content automatically comes to you, wherever you are. Newspaper subscriptions are delivered wirelessly each morning. Most magazines arrive before they hit newsstands. Haven’t read the book for tomorrow night’s book club? Get it in a minute. Finished your book in the airport? Download the sequel while you board the plane. Whether you’re in the mood for something serious or hilarious, lighthearted or studious, Kindle delivers your spontaneous reading choices on demand.

And because we know you can’t judge a book by its cover, Kindle lets you download and read the beginning of books for free. This way, you can try it out—if you like it, simply buy and download with 1-Click, right from your Kindle, and continue reading. Want to try a newspaper as well? All newspaper subscriptions start with a risk-free two-week trial.

Kindle’s paperback size and expandable memory let you travel light with your library. With the freedom to download what you want, when you want, we hope you’ll never again find yourself stuck without a great read.”

Random things

13 07 2008

So I was in Bahrain last weekend… and I saw 2 random things that I would like to show to you. the pictures below are an escalator that I noticed was a bit short. it was the escalator of Alyateem mall in Bahrain.. it has to be less than 12 steps long.. it was just funny.

The second picture is a pimped out Land Cruiser that was parked in the building my friend lives in. it’s a Land Cruiser with a rolls-royce front end and some random body kit around it. I thought it’s ugly .. enjoy it

Fring for Symbian

13 07 2008

I have always wanted to use Skype on my phone.. So I decided to installed Fring on my E71 which is a client for Skype, MSN, ICQ and other messaging services. whats really awesome about it is the fact that you can use 3G to make the calls, that means international calling just became 100 times cheaper for me! the reasons i didn’t like fring before was the fact that it was only WiFi for the calls, now with this feature and my 14KD per month subscription for data it’s very good way to be connected with people outside of Kuwait as well as saving money when you do that.

Inflation?

10 07 2008

Where are we headed? it’s a very scary thought to see inflation go this high.. and with oil prices and gold going up we will only see inflation go higher.

Refer to my previous post about oil which was commented on by Skunk:

“these oil prices arent even good for opec countries as it is the oil price itself which is the cause of the record inflation that even opec countries are suffering from. while alot of the world’s money is coming here, alot is also going out to import stuff into this region cos nothing is made here.

so rents are higher cos it costs more money to bring in materials to build new buildings, food is higher cos of transport costs, fertiliser costs, packaging costs, etc.”

Seriously, money lately isn’t worth as much as it was worth few years back.. I still remember being able to survive a weekend on 4 or 5 KD when I was younger. now if you are lucky and you don’t spend much you will be throwing out no less than 30 or 40 KD (on a good weekend) without even buying something that you will keep.

What scares me even more that investing your money is harder now (obviously).. couple of months ago I wanted to open a fixed deposit.. and the rate they offered was 2.75% per annum for the monthly deposit! that means you are actually loosing money on your deposit..

What would your saving plan be in such a scenario? share..

UPDATE: a friend just sent me this picture.. it’s true regarding inflation

Silk City? Isn’t that a Myth?

9 07 2008

Yesterday I was reading the newspaper “for a change” and I realized that they actually still talk about the Silk City, I honestly forgot what it’s all about.. it has been this long. apparently they plan to start the development of the city in October “2008″, and the reason for the quotation is the fact that they only wrote in October, they didn’t mention anything about the year.

So what do you people think? honestly speaking, i’ll be in shock if I see something happening before 2009.

Image and post Idea taken from Buzberry, thanks FAH

Will they ever develop the Silk City?

The book of answers

8 07 2008

This book can be found on Amazon.com, the book is just another Magic Eight Ball but it has something around 500-700 answers. the way this book is used is buy having a random question in your mind and then you open a random page which will have an answer for you.

the name of the book sounds much more serious that what it is. we have one at home and when we get into question this thing can be hilarious !

Click her to buy it

E71

7 07 2008

So I received a phone call around 9pm today from an unknown number.. i picked up and guess who it was .. nokia in avenues..  he told me that the E71 that I have reserved is available! i’m currently transfering the data from the old phone. and will be using it.. I can’t wait!

The price of the E71 is: 159 KD.

UPDATE:

Now that I have got the chance to try the phone out. here is what I think about it.

  • Love the Mode Switch between personal and business.
  • as most of the reviews have mentioned. the phone is much faster than the previous E61i.
  • camera is pretty damn good .. i’m a little biased because I have never used a phone with a 3+ mp camera, so this camera is good for me.
  • Email works just fine.
  • keyboard is smaller than the previous one. but perfectly sized.
  • phone as a whole is smaller yet fully functional compared to the E61.
  • menu is a little different but that can be used to easily i’m sure.
  • browser is as good as the previous e61i and better.
  • lots of customization possible, that i didn’t get to yet.
  • GPS, i need to set this one up.. it should be fun and useful to have.

will add to the list as I get to use the phone better.

Hancock

7 07 2008

I have to say first, sitting in a theater with 4 of your friends each sitting in a different side of the theater is just wrong and feels weird, even though I don’t like to talk in the movies I do like to comment once in a while and it’s just more comfortable anyway.

Now Hancock was a good movie, true that it could have been a much better one.. there was these weird scenes where I felt something was slow or just not up to the pace that the movie was going by. Will Smith did an awesome job playing the drunk ass superhero.. which was pretty damn funny to be honest. Obviously the main issue with the movie was the censorship but it’s tolerable since they didn’t shawarmize (my new term for the censorship) anything of the story, but I definitely need to watch it uncensored when it comes out on dvd.
