Facebook… what can I say about this social network??

let me start by talking about my history with facebook. I started using facebook in the January 2005 if i’m not mistaken, at that time the website had only universities as networks and you are not allowed to subscribe to it unless you have an email from a college or an educational institution. For me this was great idea to be able to find my friend’s information anytime after I leave the US and move back to kuwait. So I listened to my roommate Kyle and started my facebook account and I have had it ever since.

Yeah and another thing I liked about facebook at the time is the amount of possible information you can put on it. it’s limited yet all that you need. contact, education, personal info, photos and the famous wall. KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid)

Not too long ago facebook started to allow “work networks” to access the network, and soon after that it was open to the public. you know what .. what the hell right ? I kinda liked that idea too when I thought about my friends that didn’t go to school and are not living with us in Kuwait. But soon after I have realized that the network expanded rapidly! which is again also fine with me.

  • Why am I writing this then?? I have two reasons:
    • People are not using facebook stay in touch with their friends or even attempt to start friendships with people but as we can see in most Arabic countries now, it has been used for hooking up blah blah blah… IRC (internet relay chat) all over again basically. I mean what the hell are people thinking when you receive requests for friendship from the name TanTosha El-ManToSha and GharGana BeDmoo3i ?? (i’m just giving out random names now) do they really expect someone to accept that request?
    • Why is facebook looking like MySpace all of a sudden?? I actually have to admit that I liked some of the applications they have on facebook. But I couldn’t resist removing them all (except Texas Hold ‘Em, and it’s not on my profile either). The main reason why I started this post was looking at a friend’s profile and seriously it was more than 20 pages long.. the profile had 37 Applications for god’s sake! do you really need 3 different types of walls? and do you really need this weird, confusing, and unorganized looking profile??

I honeslty think facebook is a great way of communication and it should be used, not abused. and i’m saying that because i’m using it alot since I have moved to Rotterdam to stay in touch with my friends all over.

Even the old banner looked better! :P (thats me just wanting to complain)
