My experience at the Blood Bank Email This Post Print This Post

May 21st, 2007 by Weld El-Ma6aba | 20

Today I went to donate blood at the Blood Bank in Jabriya. I was impressed by how quick and efficient they are. The whole process took about 20 minutes including the qualifying test, filling up the forms, and donating the blood.

The form… I have to talk about that!! it’s the funniest application i’ve seen! “not saying it’s useless or there is no reason for it.. but it’s different :P”

the form has bunch of Yes/No question which all 90% of them revolve around Aids basically… some of the questions are:

  • Are you donating blood to test your self for AIDS?
  • Did you have sex with a guy, even once? (for guys only)
  • Did you pay for sex?
  • Have you been paid for sex or given drugs to do so?
  • and the questions are almost all around this subject ;P

After finishing the blood test they gave me JUICE !!!!! they are so nice … after i left the building and got into my car and started driving i realized that I was so light headed that I drove on the wrong side of the road :P

Yes they are quite funny questions, but as you said they are useful, infact they are very useful, for example if some one had sex with a prostitute or someone at high risk of having AIDS(having sex with men) he can not donate blood for a minimum period of atleast 6 months, six months, as the virus may not appear until a period of 6 months!

I donated twice and each time they gave me juice, I felt a little lightheaded also so I drove into Hawalli and stopped at the first ful (or is it fool) restaurant to have a complete egyptian breakfast and restore needed vitamins and nutritients that I lost.

Blood donation is good for the body, it encourages it to produce new red cells, and it’s good for the sole when you think that your blodd might help someone else in need

and it’d good to your pocket, when you get the KD 10 as a reward :)

I friend of mine donated some blood and asked for it to be reserved for his pregnant sister (They both have a rare blood type) as he was leaving the country around the time she would be giving birth.

By the time his sister was in labour, her husband asked the Blood Bank to transfer the reserved blood, and the people there told him that it’s been ‘used up’. When the husband tried to explain that they were wrong, and that it was reserved, they told him, ‘Well, it’s happened, what can you do?’.

The Central Blood Bank may be nice, but i’d like to be treated professionally rather tthan politely, especially where health is concerned.

Now those are funny questions indeed! I do have to say that I think in Finland you need to have some tests done before donating! Well glad you had a good laugh before giving your blood!

Driving on the wrong side of the road?? Now that’s light headed!!! :D

By the way here they drive as in the UK on the left side!!! So every one was driving wrong way when I moved here! ;)

Ps; I don’t like the 10KD reward!! I think from the word donating, not selling!!!!
